Blue Girls Wrist Watch
Rubies have been shrouded in folklore for centuries past. The precious stone is considered to possess many magical qualities by many different groups of people. The ruby gets its red color from the crystals that make up the base mineral, Corundum. Corundum in its natural form is a deep red in color. When this mineral has traces of other elements like titanium, iron and chromium, it gives rise to the formation of sapphire. Based on the concentration of these trace elements, the color of the sapphire would range from different shades of blue to even pink, yellow or opaque black. While sapphires used in engagement rings are usually blue in color, although sapphires in other colors can also be used, ruby engagement rings are purely red in color since rubies do not exist in other colors naturally.
The ruby stone is quite hard although not as hard as a diamond. Therefore, it is one of the most preferred stones by both jewelers as well as jewel lovers alike. The hardness of a stone really matters as a soft stone would make jewel making more difficult. Constant care has to be taken while crafting the jewel. Even a slight scratch would considerably lower the value of the stone. On the other hand, a stone of higher hardness like diamond can be used without much fear of being scratched. People buying ruby engagement rings would also not have to worry much about getting their stone worn out or scratched accidentally.
While rubies are predominantly a deep red in color, there are some that have a tinge of purple. While this is quite rare, they could make good ruby engagement rings because of their rarity. Having an engagement ring with a rare stone color would imply that the man has found a rare jewel as his would-be among various other women. Such a compliment would be highly valued by any bride-to-be.
Rubies are cut in various shapes and sizes. While most stones are cut in regular shapes like squares, rectangles and circles, one can opt for more interesting shapes like shape of the heart, which is an icon for love. Ruby engagement rings with a heart shaped stone would be most appropriate for the occasion.
